Why is a customer subscription marked as inactive?

A customer subscription will become inactive if:

• the order was set to mutual renewal terms, and the contract end date has passed. The subscription will have effectively lapsed.

• or, the order was set to automatic renewal terms, but a renewal order was created manually. An open renewal order will override the auto-renew functionality.
